Beersheba Farm ‘Castledales’ are a line of sheep being developed at Beersheba Farm. At this stage they do not fit the definition of a “breed” because that requires approximately 7 generations and the trait of “breeding true”.
The breeding aims for these sheep are: a soft-handling fleece, well-formed staples with good pearly lustre, staple length of 12-14cm. They are currently 24-26 micron and their fleeces are a joy to spin.
The wool going into our combed tops is professionally classed at shearing time and only our prime fleeces are used. This results in a superior length and handle in the tops as well as very little processing waste.
